Our finest red wine. At the end of the 1980s few believed that in Sicily it would be possible to make innovative wines with great structure and long maturation. Duca di Montalbo, made from grapes grown on 50-year-old, low-yielding vineyards, is vinified only in the best vintages. The Cru is decisive: the Montalbo district is characterised by a layer of 100% calcareous marl, a “lunar” soil surprisingly suitable for making long-maturing red wines.
